Peoria city council at its public meeting May 28 will consider its $995 million final budget for fiscal year 2025, a 4.7% increase from last year.
The proposed operating budget is $458.9 million, an increase from $416.4 million last year, and represents the day-to-day operations of the city.
The fiscal year 2025 budget adds 41 new full-time employees totaling $5.4 million ongoing, plus an additional 26 one-time contract employees at a cost of $2.8 milion. The budget also includes compensation adjustments for existing employees in the form of cost-of-living and merit increases. Officials say these adjustments are necessary to stay competitive in what has been a very tight labor market the last few years.
