Peoria calling on residents to help document bird population

March’s migratory season makes for ideal time to join effort

The month of March brings Birding BioBlitz to Peoria, and the city is calling on residents to help.

The effort looks to catalogue all bird species, from common ones to rare, in Peoria by residents taking photos from anywhere in the city, even their own backyards.

“March is the beginning of our migratory bird season, when birds that have spent the winter further south begin their journeys to northern breeding grounds,” says Della Killeen, who works as a park ranger in Peoria’s Parks, Recreation & Community Facilities Department. “It’s a great time to see unusual birds. The weather is also terrific at this time of the year, making Arizona a destination for bird watchers from all over the country.”
