Peoria bracing for state tax cuts

City estimates loss of $7M annually in perpetuity

A proposed budget deal being considered by Arizona legislators could allow residents to keep more of the money they earn, but it also could have a chilling effect on the budgets of cities like Peoria, leaders say.

If passed, the measure, in the form of a $1.5 billion tax cut, would take away $285 million combined from municipalities across the state as part of Arizona’s 2022 fiscal year budget, said Nick Ponder of the League of Arizona Cities and Towns, an advocacy group that acts on behalf of the state’s cities and towns.

It is purported to be the single largest cut to local governments in Arizona’s history.
