Peoria aims to make water meters smarter

City readies for advanced metering infrastructure pilot program

Smart technology seems ubiquitous these days. Now it could be coming to home and business water meters throughout Peoria, which officials say, will help conserve water and provide other benefits to the city.

The Peoria City Council May 7 accepted a $3 million grant with a $750,000 match from the city to fund an ongoing study to determine feasibility, cost and benefit to implementing advanced metering infrastructure in Peoria.

The grant will fund a pilot program to install and track the success of the technology.
