Penzone leads to retain Maricopa County sheriff’s badge

Early count favors incumbent

Early election results from the Maricopa County Elections Department indicate Paul Penzone will retain his office as county sheriff.

While election results will not be officials on election night, the first counts released after 8 p.m. showed Mr. Penzone with 59% of the vote and Jerry Sheridan, his Republican challenger, had 41%. That included 838,362 votes for Mr. Penzone, a Democrat, and 579,958 for Mr. Sheridan.

Mr. Penzone, was elected in 2016 after defeating Joe Arpaio, who served for more than 20 years as Maricopa County sheriff.
