Pellet gun puts Queen Creek school on lockdown

Katherine Mecham Barney Elementary School was placed on lockdown Wednesday afternoon after Queen Creek police received a report of a person with a firearm. 

The Queen Creek Police Department responded to the area of Oriole Way and 225th Street near the school and "quickly detained one person, and the school was placed on lockdown as a precaution," according to QCPD. 

"The preliminary investigation determined that they had a pellet gun. There were no reported injuries. QCPD cleared the school and remained onsite to assist with early release day," police added.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
