A 33-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the assault of a Mesa man, Chandler police said.

The suspect also allegedly committed crimes in Queen Creek and Gilbert, according to authorities.

Chandler police responded June 12 to a neighborhood near McQueen and Cooper roads after receiving reports of an assault.

Police found an injured 70-year-old man who had been doing landscaping at a home. Police said they learned a man had confronted the victim, assaulted him and then stole the victim’s vehicle before leaving.

The suspect was identified as Eric Lartigue, 33, of Chandler.  The victim was identified as Daniel Lopez of Mesa, according to a release.

“The investigation revealed that after assaulting Lopez, Lartigue went to known residences in Queen Creek and Gilbert, where he committed other crimes at both locations before being contacted by Gilbert PD in a business parking lot in Queen Creek,” the release stated.

Lartigue was arrested and booked for aggravated assault and vehicle theft, police said.

Lopez is in serious but stable condition at a hospital, they said.
