Pauline Josephine (Christoph) Bortz, 97, passed away on Sunday, March 4, 2018, at Moonlight Manor in Surprise, AZ. Pauline was born April 15, 1920 in Knox, IN.She married Wayne Bortz, March 9, 1940, in Thomaston, IN. He preceded her in death, April 6, 2005.They spent most of their married life in Wanatah, IN, moving to Sun City, AZ after Wayne retired. They both enjoyed church activities and involvement in Fairway Recreation Center Ceramics and Silver Craft Clubs and traveling to Colorado, Arizona, parts of Europe, the Middle East and spending time with their children, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren.Pauline loved to cook, work in her garden, sew quilts, paint her ceramic figurines, and crochet doilies, placemats, and potholders for her family and friends.Pauline and Wayne were active members of Faith United Methodist Church (IN) and First United Methodist Church (AZ).She is survived by a sister, Edith Werner, a brother, Raymond "Bud" Christoph, a son Dr. Donald (Mary) Bortz, three daughters; Pauline (James) Mohlke, Connie (Ed) Welsh, and Carol (Bill) Mayor. Her grandchildren: David (Vanja) Bortz; Sarah (Brock) Heinz; Tim (Kathy) Mohlke; Terry (Lorene) Mohlke; Bud (Kelly) Welsh; Kevin (Lily) Welsh; Daryl (Jill) Welsh and 10 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren who all have fond memories of "Grandma Bortz". Two brothers and one sister preceded her in death. Memorials in her honor may be made to the First United Methodist Church, the American Heart Assoc.; or donor's choice. Family, visiting relatives, friends, staff at Americare Hospice, caregivers and residents at Moonlight Manor became her family, when she no longer could stay in her condo.A Celebration of Life service will be held Friday, March 23rd, at Moonlight Manor Assisted Living Facility. Graveside services will be held in Wanatah, IN in the Spring.
