A new scam is popping up on the windshields of cars parked in Scottsdale, police said.
Scammers are leaving fake parking tickets on vehicles, and they “look very realistic,” police said in a release.
But there are a few red flags to indicate they are fake:
- They contain a QR code that leads to a payment site.
- They only give options to pay online.
- No offense is listed on the citation.
Drivers who have received a ticket and would like to verify its validity, can contact the Scottsdale Police Department Records Unit at 480-312-1999.
Authorities ask that those receiving a ticket they question wait at least 24 hours to verify whether it is fake.
