City code changes

EV charging, bicycle, motorcycles parking requirements considered in Apache Junction

The Apache Junction City Council in September will discuss proposed city code changes on bicycle racks, parking spaces for motorcycles and charging stations for electric vehicles required of new multifamily Apache Junction developments.

Adding bike racks, motorcycle parking and EV chargers are good ideas, Apache Junction resident Andre Meek said at an Aug. 1 city council meeting.

“AJ is sadly lacking for infrastructure for bicycles. There’s so many streets here that you wouldn’t dare ride a bike on because the No. 1 problem with traffic in AJ is speeders and they don’t look for bikes — it’s a good way to die,” he said in a public hearing on the proposed changes. “It’s a good start: You give them a bike rack where they (say) ‘Hey, we can ride over there, we can lock up our bikes, we can go check this out.’ You know, I’m all for that.”
