Parents sue Gilbert Christian Schools, town over alleged toxic exposure

Two elementary school students’ parents have filed a lawsuit against Gilbert Christian Schools, the town of Gilbert and others, alleging that toxic environmental conditions at GCS’ Greenfield Campus led to severe health issues, including repeated seizures.

The complaint, filed in Maricopa County Superior Court by parents Jaclyn and William Pfeiffer and Mark Leibfried, and Meredith and Sean Reyes, claims a persistent foul sewer odor was present on campus as early as the first day of school in August 2022. The plaintiffs argue  the smell, linked to hydrogen sulfide gas, posed a serious health risk.

The lawsuit states that two children, both 10 years old, began experiencing seizures in September 2022, which continued into 2023 despite multiple reported attempts to address the issue.
