TEEN VIOLENCE

Parents of slain Mesa teen raise concerns about rise in youth violence

The parents of a Mesa teen who was killed more than year ago during a party spoke at Monday’s Mesa City Council meeting asking for local authorities to do more in what they say is a rising tide of teen violence.

The parents of Stephen Jacobo, the Mesa teen who was shot and killed at a party on November 6, 2022, voiced their concerns to the council about the rise in youth-on-youth crime in their communities.

Their concerns were similar to those voiced within other East Valley communities like Gilbert, where the town council formed a subcommittee to address youth violence and concerns about acts committed by groups of teens and the proliferation of the “Gilbert Goons” moniker revolving around a string of recent crimes.
