Paradise Valley stands up for photo radar at Arizona Senate

Two Town of Paradise Valley representatives spoke on behalf of the municipality’s photo radar system during a Feb. 14 Arizona Senate committee hearing regarding a bill seeking to prohibit the electronic speed enforcement.

On Valentine’s Day afternoon, Vice Mayor Anna Thomasson and Paradise Valley Police Commander Freeman Carney were at the Arizona State Capitol, along with the town’s hired lobbyist Doug Cole, sharing their opinions with the Senate Transportation and Technology committee on the importance of photo enforcement to the town.

The testimony was in opposition to Senate Bill 1134, which seeks to prohibit photo radar to identify speeders in most places, except school zones. SB 1134 was introduced by Legislative District 6 Sen. Wendy Rogers, R-Flagstaff; followed by District 25 Sen. Tyler Pace, R-Mesa, proposing a strike-everything amendment, which replaces a bill with new language.
