Paradise Valley police arrest Phoenix man in $29K jewelry theft

A 32-year-old Phoenix man has been arrested as the suspect in a jewelry theft from a Paradise Valley home, police said.

Officers arrested Makale Winfield on Oct. 7, and the suspect faces charges of theft and trafficking in stolen property, according to a Paradise Valley Police Department release. The theft was reported about 3 p.m. Sept. 15 when a homeowner discovered that $29,000 in jewelry was missing after a moving company was working inside the home, police said.

Police allege the suspect pawned three rings matching the stolen items later in the day. One ring was engraved with the victim's initials and the others matched the owner's description and photos.

Police allege the suspect pawned three rings matching the stolen items later in the day. One ring was engraved with the victim's initials and the others matched the owner's description and photos.

Other evidence includes cell phone data placing the suspect at the victim’s home as well as the pawn shop on the day of the theft, police said.

Winfield was arrested in the 2400 block of West Indianola Avenue in Phoenix and “admitted during a post-Miranda interview to selling a ring taken from the victim’s home while employed as a mover,” the release stated.
