Paradise Valley Police Chief Freeman Carney and his son with other members from Arizona’s law enforcement community successfully reached the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.
The trip to Tanzania was part of an effort to raise money for the nonprofit Angels on Patrol.
The hike took multiple days to complete, covered a total distance of 35.4 miles and an elevation gain of 19,341 feet, according to a press release. Although not all in the 20-plus person group who embarked on the hike reached the summit, all members of the Angels on Patrol Group from Arizona successfully reached the peak.

Angels on Patrol is a Phoenix-based organization that provides financial assistance to police officers who are responding to calls involving people in need. The organization was founded by Phoenix Police Lt. Jacqui MacConnell in 2009 after rescuing three children in one of the most horrific abuse cases she had ever experienced in her career in law enforcement.
Angels on Patrol has since helped more than 19,000 lives since being created. Each of the hikers on this trip raised at least $7,500 for Angels on Patrol.
