Paradise Valley holds on to tourism increases

Competition for 2022 travelers to be fierce

Paradise Valley’s exclusive group of resort leaders have their eyes on competing states as places like California and Nevada prepare to loosen COVID-19 protocols and seek to regain visitors — many of whom chose newly-attractive Arizona to respite.

“I’m nervous about when these states like California and others start opening up,” said Ralph Scatena, general manager at JW Marriott Camelback Inn at 5201 E. Lincoln Drive. “They’ve got to do something big and bold to get back on the map, again quite frankly. The more we can keep the gas pedal down on this space is important. As the country starts to open, which it looks like it is, moments away — at least that’s what it feels like — I think there’s going to be a surge here and we’ve got to stay on top of it.”

The luxury resorts within the Town of Paradise Valley have benefited from leisure-goers seeking a place for respite while other go-to vacation places such as California have remained “closed” because of COVID-19.
