Robyn Mabra has been out of Surprise and studying aerospace engineering in college for a year longer than she spent at high school in the city.
Yet she has fond memories of the legacy she left in those two years at Paradise Honors High School.
Her first year in the mostly white growing suburbs of western Surprise were a culture shock after life at a diverse school and neighborhood in Southern California. Entering her second year, Ms. Mabra was determined to bring some cultural diversity to campus and started the Black Student Union at Paradise Honors.
