Pandemic plagues Scottsdale educators with subpar test scores

Plunging AzMERIT scores recorded last spring

While it was to be expected that students’ test scores may be affected from COVID-19’s impact to the classroom, new data shows how deeply students’ learning was disrupted.

Results from AzMERIT — a statewide test used to assess students in third through 11th grade in English and mathematics — were recently released by the Arizona Department of Education for last spring’s scores.

Those scores included a breakdown according to grade levels, demographic areas and more.  Independent Newsmedia’s Education Team requested test scores across the Valley, and evaluated scores district by district.
