Pandemic forces FUSD back to remote learning

Too many teachers are either in isolation or ill

All students in the Florence Unified School District are back to remote learning today after an emergency move to stop in-person classes for the next two weeks.

FUSD Superintendent Chris Knutsen requested the governing board accept his recommendation that students at all 12 district schools return to remote learning starting today through Jan. 29.

“We just met our tipping point on Monday, where we had 60 teachers out either sick or in isolation,” Mr. Knutsen said. “The problem is we need more subs. We need more substitute teachers. If we had more substitute teachers, we could continue to limp along.”
