Palmbrook hosts ikebana society’s 50th anniversary in Sun City

Members learn Japanese art

Palmbrook Country Club, 9350 W. Greenway Road in Sun City, hosted the 50th anniversary of the Sun Cities Chapter 167 International Ikebana Society.

Nearly 100 members from throughout the Valley attended the get-together, which included two workshops to learn the finer points of the Japanese style of  flower arranging. Instructors Misea Ishkawa, a master teacher, and Louise Daggs, a professor of Ohara, made the presentations. Ishkawa also gave a demonstration for those in attendance.

In ikebana blossoms, branches, leaves and stems find new life as materials for artmaking. In contrast to the western habits of casually placing flowers in a vase, ikebana aims to bring out the inner qualities of flowers and other live materials and express emotion. Considerations of color, line, form and function guide the construction of a work.
