Owners of short-term rental homes in Queen Creek must now be licensed

With a change in state law, the town of Queen Creek is now able to have more control over vacation and short-term rentals.

The original state law limited a municipality’s ability to regulate vacation and short-term rentals, or STRs. But due to significant problems in some cities and towns in 2022, the state Legislature passed, and Gov. Doug Ducey signed, an amended law that provides municipalities with limited expanded ability to regulate STRs.

“The new short-term rental legislation allows municipalities to require STRs to be licensed with the municipality. As a result of the new legislation, staff is proposing amendments to the town code to require short-term rental operators to receive a license through the town,” according to a staff report.
