Posted

An SUV collided with a bicyclist shortly after midnight Saturday, causing serious injuries, Mesa police said.

The crash occurred in the 1600 block of East Southern Avenue, and preliminary information indicates the vehicle was traveling east on Southern when it left the road, veered onto a sidewalk and struck the bicyclist, according to a release from the Mesa Police Department.

The SUV then collided with a light pole and a bus stop before stopping when it hit a block wall, police said.

The bicyclist sustained serious injuries and was taken to a hospital.

Investigators checked the driver for impairment. Charges are pending the results of testing.
