Overlay decision in limbo in Sun City

County board takes no action

Unlike an earlier challenge to Sun City’s age overlay, the Maricopa County Board of Adjustment left the latest variance request in limbo.

It is the second special use permit requested this year that challenged Sun City’s age overlay and was filed Oct. 12. The first was in May by a woman who wanted her granddaughter to live with her to help provide care. That permit was denied in June by the Maricopa County Board of Adjustment. The latest permit is for a much younger person — a 10-year-old girl. The latest request was submitted by Kenny Hermiz Jajou for a residence in the 11200 block of North 111th Avenue. Attempts to contact Mr. Jajou were unsuccessful.

But the Board of Adjustment did not act on the latest request during a Nov. 10 hearing.
