Outgoing Mesa Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Andi Fourlis spoke on recent layoffs that the district has had to do thanks to rising costs, less funding and declining enrollment in a YouTube video.
“In Arizona, our funding is determined by the number of students enrolled. Fewer students mean less funding,” Fourlis said. “Next year, we are estimating 1,800 fewer students in our district.”
MUSD — also known as Mesa Public Schools — is the largest public school district in Arizona and has six high schools, nine junior high schools, 55 elementary schools and 18 choice and success schools.
