OPINION – Our current reality is worse than anything I could have imagined in my worst nightmare. Where to start?
Republicans, are you better off in any way today than when Trump took office? Do you feel safer now than before Trump? Do you believe your freedoms to be who you are and express what you believe are still protected? Are prices better and jobs more plentiful? Are farmers and employers thriving? Are supposedly independent government agencies still operating independently or under total presidential control?
I see a country where due process, equal justice and civil rights (guaranteed by the Constitution) have been ignored by this president and also by the Supreme Court. Trump sent masked, unidentified, armed thugs to break down people’s doors and windows, roughly take anyone away in handcuffs and disappear them. According to reports, at least 70 citizens (two children with cancer) are currently being held in detention, seemingly for absolutely no reason other than they are brown. This is textbook authoritarianism!
