Optum Community Center has big opening in Surprise

Health and wellness facility caters to 55 and over for free

When Nancy Brookman’s husband died seven years ago, the 80-year-old Sun City resident received one recommendation from her doctor: Get out of the house and socialize.

She learned about the Optum Community Center in Goodyear, one of several well-being centers catering to seniors 55 and over, and found her outlet.

Brookman, who also lost her mother around the same time as her husband, traveled half an hour to the Goodyear location three to four times a week.
