Optima project in Scottsdale gains rezoning approval

Developer: ‘We plan on starting construction as soon as possible’

Rezoning for the forthcoming Optima McDowell Mountain Village gained city of Scottsdale approval, albeit through a split vote.

The developer, Optima, got the OK Nov. 21 from the Scottsdale City Council regarding rezoning and amended development standards for the proposed mixed-use project that will bring in a mix of 1,331 units at the Loop 101 and Scottsdale Road.

Among the approved new specs are building heights reduced from three 10-story and three nine-story buildings to six eight-story buildings. Also, a density reduced from 64 units per acre to 61 units per acre, plus a stipulation that the developer will provide to the city the right to withdraw 2,750 acre-feet of water accessible from either the Central Arizona Project canal or a well located within the Salt River Project.
