Hunkapi Programs, an equine therapy farm located in Scottsdale, announces the ninth annual signature Open Your Heart Gala, set for 5:30-10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at 12051 N. 96th St.

The “old wild west”-themed event celebrates the nonprofit’s mission to serve 300 people weekly with a range of diagnoses through therapeutic horse programs on the historic 10-acre farm. All funds raised will benefit a wide array of services offered by the Hunkapi Programs, including therapeutic riding, counseling, emotional regulation, somatic experience and addiction recovery.

Hunkapi’s different programs benefit clients with a range of diagnoses, including autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, emotional disorder, addiction disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

The evening will be emceed by five-time Emmy Award-winning news anchor Brandon Lee. There will also be a live auction led by auctioneer Subyn Novelle, featuring winnings including a private Phoenix Suns suite, a Barrett Jackson VIP package and a vacation at Omni Amelia Island Resort Stay & Delta Airfare. The night will also include speeches by program participants and Executive Director Terra Schaad. The festivities will continue with a farm-to-table dining experience, games, a best-dress contest, photo opportunities with members of the herd and more.

“Every year, this gala is a chance for us to thank the incredible community that supports our mission to provide quality equine therapy to Valley residents who need it the most,” said Schaad. “Demand for services and volunteer opportunities continue to rise as mental health has been challenged in both youth and adults alike and this event allows us to continue supporting those looking for second chances and a place to heal.”
