Heat Relief

Only one Phoenix Library branch will have extended hours this summer

City is shifting cooling center duties to other facilities

Only one Phoenix Public Library branch, rather than three branches the past two years, will have extended hours this summer to serve as a cooling center during extreme summer heat.

In 2024, Phoenix began keeping the Cholla, Harmon and Yucca branches open until 10 p.m. every day of the summer, including Sundays and holidays. This summer, only the Cholla Library will have those extended hours during the summer heat season of May 1-Sept. 30, Library Services Director Erin MacFarlane told the Library Advisory Board on Wednesday.

The Cholla Library is at the former Metrocenter mall, southwest of Interstate 17 and Peoria Avenue.
