Online petition aims to delay upcoming DVUSD boundary vote

Proposed changes may impact district schools, students

An online petition driven by parents aims to convince the Deer Valley Unified School District governing board to delay next week’s scheduled voting session on proposed boundary changes.

Jennifer Marshall, a parent of two DVUSD students whose school figures to be among those the proposed changes would impact, is using the petition to raise awareness to her Aloravita neighborhood in Peoria — and others facing potential impacts. As of Wednesday evening, some 24 hours after launching online, the petition had 183 signatures.

A flurry of residential and business expansion in the north Phoenix and Peoria sections of DVUSD is driving the need for new boundaries, district administrators say, as well as campuses that are already currently or soon will be above their student population capacities.
