Ongoing I-17 construction shouldn’t impact weekend travel

Interstate 17 road work is trudging ahead.

Paving, bridge work and earthwork are all major components that are ongoing to help relieve congestion, add capacity and make the roadway more safe, said Luis Carlos Lopez, an ADOT spokesman.

The project, along a 23mile stretch of the route north of Phoenix, will widen northbound and southbound lanes and add additional lanes to improve capacity and reduce congestion from Anthem Way north to the Sunset Point Rest Area.
