Valley experts share what people should know before getting rid of old electronics

OPINION — Many of us have old electronics we’re not sure what to do with, and most of us want to do the right thing so they are disposed of safely and don’t end up in a landfill.

For many people, the hesitation isn’t just environmental. It’s also about privacy, because old phones, tablets and laptops can still hold personal information, account access, photos and files long after we stop using them.

That caution is understandable. Electronic products can contain hazardous materials that pose environmental risks if they are sent to a landfill or incinerated.
