One young boy passed away and another remains in critical condition after a double drowning Friday night in Glendale.
According to the Glendale Fire Department, the children, ages 3 and 4, were playing in a backyard when one of them fell into the pool. Investigators believe the second child went in to save his brother. Both children received CPR on scene, and life-saving measures were performed.
One of the boys did not survive while the other remains in critical condition at a local hospital.
The investigation is ongoing, but GFD reports that there was not a pool fence in place.
An Arizona Department of Health Services 2021 report shows Glendale had 92 water-related incidents that required hospitalization from 2016 through 2020. That works out to more than 18 per year.
According to the most current numbers available through Realtor.com, 37% of single-family homes in Glendale have pools. That ranks as the fifth highest city percentage in the U.S.
