Omicron spreads through airports, including Sky Harbor

Phoenix sees cancellations, delays

The Omicron variant of the coronavirus is surging, and it’s wreaking havoc on more than just immune systems.

Across the U.S., flights have been delayed or canceled, often leaving people stranded for days until a new flight finally departs. That includes flights in and out of Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, where close to 150 flights were delayed or canceled as of Wednesday afternoon. Nationwide, approximately 2,639 flights were delayed and 1,613 were canceled.

Greg Roybal, a spokesman for Sky Harbor, said delays and cancellations are strictly under the purview of airlines and the airport does not make those decisions. The airlines also are responsible for assisting stranded passengers.
