Olson: World is more complex than yesteryear

Why do we have to resort to the Us vs. Them when it comes to a ‘side’ you are on for our country and for the world.

Our world is more complex than the world of yesteryear and with COVID, we see a lot of the unjust and unethical negative externalities of not having high bandwidth organizations and policies and by not ensuring the right problems are identified as the binding constraint in the economy and so limited resources are spent chasing things that do not solve the immediate problem and result in problems for local government and will be problems for those who inherit things when we retire.

A problem-driven iterative approach that engages all people and is well rooted in the local community will have extraordinary meritorious effects and perhaps help people change their thinking and be aware of their biases and filters.

A ‘sense of us’ with citizen engagement and harnessing the capabilities and capacities in private and public organizations and a movement to less of a top-down approach will help in great ways.
