SUN CITY - Olive A. Dean, a long time resident of Sun City, passed away on March 11, 2013. Ms. Dean was born Olive A. Cunningham on Oct. 29, 1927 in Hammond, Ind. She was working as a telephone operator in Chicago when she met Marshall H. Dean, who was in the U.S. Navy. The couple married for the first time in July 1945 at the Cunningham home in Lansing, Ill. Dean was from Colorado. He died on Oct. 7, 2001 in Sun City. Marshall Dean spent more than 20 years in the U. S. Navy and during that period the couple lived all over the country including a stint in Hawaii before it became a state. The two renewed their marriage on Dec. 7, 1993 in Peoria, Az. after Dean retired. Ms. Dean worked as a cashier in Hawaii, California and Colorado. She retired from ACE Hardware in Sun City in 2007 after five years of employment there. She is survived by two daughters, Marsha Kay Trent (Dean) of California and Mona Dean of Sun City; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; other survivors include a sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Jim Zimmerman of Sun City; and a brother and sister-in-law, Wayne F. and Iris Cunningham of Colo. A celebration of life gathering is planned later this year for long-time Sun City. Inurnment will be along side her husband at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona. The family requests donations to Wounded Warriors in lieu of flowers.
