Old space gets new life in start of Metrocenter demolition

Hugs and handshakes were all around as crews started to tear down what remains of Metrocenter Mall in Phoenix before a new era takes shape in the area.

But folks were excited not about portions of the old building coming down but what’s to come: a revitalization complete with a new urban village with a posh name, the Metropolitan.

A pool and pickleball courts on a not-yet-constructed parking garage and an area to host concerts and movie nights are among the amenities the new development is expected to be stocked with, according to officials at the Monday afternoon event just to the east of the old Metrocenter storefront.
