Official: Forest closures needed throughout Arizona, but temporary 

More than 1,000 wildfires across state already this year

Summer is high season in Arizona for enjoying the state’s beautiful natural amenities as hikers, campers and fisherman escape the Valley of the Sun in favor of higher ground and cooler climes.

But a worse-than-normal wildfire season has led to recent restrictions and closures on public lands just in time to unravel Fourth of July weekend plans for would-otherwise-be travelers.

However poorly timed, this summer’s shaping up for a doozy of fire season across the Southwest, according to NASA’s Earth Observatory.
