The official General Election canvass presented by the Maricopa County Elections Department shows final results for three Glendale-focused education votes from November’s ballots.
In the election to seat two new members on the Deer Valley Unified School District governing board, newcomers Stephanie Simacek and Paul Carver were the highest vote getters. The final breakdown looks like this: Simacek (38,837 votes; 27.3%), Carver (37,366 votes; 26.3%), Tony Bouie (34,269 votes; 24.1%) and Craig Beckman (31,259 votes; 22%).
The terms for Simacek and Carver begin Sunday, Jan. 1, and their first meeting as board members will be Tuesday, Jan. 10.
The top voters for two open seats on the Glendale Union High School District governing board were Patty Kennedy (35,367 votes; 39%) and Natalie Veidmark (31,774 votes; 35%). Paul Ulan ran third (22,919 votes; 25.3%).
Voters approved continuing the budget override for the Glendale Union High School District by a wide margin: Yes (44,420 votes; 61.2%), No (28,206 votes; 38.8%).
The Maricopa County Elections Department report shows out of 2,435,397 registered voters there were 1,562,758 ballots cast for a turnout of 64.2%.
