Officer-involved shooting kills man in Surprise

Walmart parking lot still active investigation scene

Surprise Police are investigating a deadly officer-involved shooting of a possibly armed man near the Walmart on Bell Road and Grand Avenue on Tuesday afternoon.

An unidentified officer fired a single shot at the man, who claimed he had a gun as officers tried to talk to him inside a car parked outside the store.

Police received a call at 12:20 p.m. from an unidentified business nearby that alerted officers to what Surprise Police spokesman James Rothschild called an “unwanted guest.”
