A Phoenix officer was hospitalized March 13 after attempting to stop a suspected shoplifter inside a Baseline Road store, police said Saturday.
At about 3:47 p.m. on Friday, the officer, in full uniform and working off duty, contacted a man who was shoplifting inside of a business in the 2400 block of East Baseline Road. The man, identified as 33-year-old Devontae Lashawn Stockdale, was asked to return the stolen items and leave, according to a Phoenix Police Department release.
The suspect tried to run away when the officer attempted to retrieve the items.
