A couple of West Valley actors are taking on double character studies in a Neil Simon classic.
When “The Odd Couple” opens Friday, Sept. 6 as a Showcase Community Theatre production, it brings a new twist to the audience favorite. Lead actors Joey Whelan and Gabe Escudero will alternate playing iconic main characters Oscar Madison and Felix Unger throughout the six-show run through Sept. 15.
Certainly both will have to learn the 80-plus pages of dialogue for each role in addition to managing each character’s stage cues, props and costumes. And then there’s understanding the humanity in each character played against the other depending on which role they inhabit for a given show.
