NWVI questions Hamadeh–Beck favoritism in defense bill

Posted

Northwest Valley Indivisible is raising concerns about a growing appearance of mutual political favoritism between Congressman Abe Hamadeh and Peoria Mayor Jason Beck.

Earlier this year, Northwest Valley Indivisible led a peaceful protest on the public sidewalk outside TYR Tactical — the private business owned by Mayor Beck — during a political event featuring Rep. Hamadeh. Despite the group’s nonviolent presence, Mayor Beck personally intervened and directed Peoria police to relocate senior adult protesters to a so-called “free speech zone” across four lanes of rush-hour traffic.

Now, Rep. Hamadeh has inserted language into the FY 2026 National Defense Authorization Act directing attention and possible funding toward research on next-generation body armor. TYR Tactical already holds lucrative federal contracts, and the amendment could pave the way for even more.

We’re not making accusations, but we are paying attention. It certainly appears that Mayor Beck used city resources to shield Congressman Hamadeh from public protest, and now the congressman is promoting legislation that could directly benefit Beck’s company.

As advocates for government accountability and transparency, Northwest Valley Indivisible urges journalists, watchdogs and fellow citizens to monitor this relationship closely. When elected officials use their power to protect each other — especially when private business and public office overlap — the public deserves answers.
