Nurse urges yes vote on Valleywise Health bond

Posted

As a nurse and public health advocate, I know how important it is that we have safety-net, public health systems to provide high quality health care to low-income and underserved communities. That’s why I’m voting yes on Proposition 409 in the all-mail, Maricopa County bond election in November.

We rely on Valleywise Health and its networks of clinics, hospitals and emergency centers. The only public hospital system in the county, Valleywise offers excellent medical and behavioral health care to all people, regardless of their ability to pay and trains up the next generations of nurses and doctors.

To keep up with population growth and continue its critical services, Valleywise Health needs our yes votes on Prop 409, which will allow it to make investments in its community centers and hospitals such as a new behavioral health center and expanded emergency, pediatric and maternity services.

I am voting yes on Prop 409 because it is vital that our health system be resourced to meet the rising demand with quality care and modern, functional facilities. Compassionate care of all people is a mark of a civilized society that values human life and dignity.

We all live better lives when health care is widely available. None of us are safe until all of us are safe. I urge Maricopa County voters to join me in investing in the future of public health care by voting yes on Prop 409 in November.
