November runoff may determine council, mayor races

Close tallies as votes counted

It appears Fountain Hills residents may be waiting until November to find out the makeup of the Town Council for the next two years.

As of the unofficial vote counts released by Maricopa County late Wednesday, July 31, it was too close to call any of the seats, although it appears two council seats may be filled outright, though their vote counts were too close to the threshold to be certain while ballots were still being counted.

With three candidates in the mayor’s race, the final results appear headed for a runoff between incumbent Mayor Ginny Dickey and Councilman Gerry Friedel. Former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio was a distant third. Dickey had tallied 4,127 as of late Wednesday. That was the highest vote total for all candidates in the council race. Friedel had received 3,644, with 1,383 for Arpaio.
