North Surprise traffic signal to be activated soon
Signal to go live at 163rd Avenue, Pat Tillman on Feb. 21
Posted
By city of Surprise
Surprise has installed a new traffic signal at the intersection of 163rd Avenue and Pat Tillman Boulevard.
The traffic signal will be activated at approximately 4 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21.
To help with awareness of the new traffic signal, there will be signs reading “New Traffic Pattern Ahead” ahead of the intersection in all directions.
The new signal is equipped with a detection system, which will monitor for cars and adjust the length of the signal, as necessary.
The system also captures real-time data on traffic volume and direction of travel, as well as video, to assist the city’s traffic management team in determining any necessary adjustments to signal timing on an ongoing basis.
For the first few weeks following signal activation, city staff will monitor traffic daily from the field and via live and recorded video from the city’s Traffic Management Center to allow for quick adjustments and to ensure traffic flows as smoothly as possible.
