North Phoenix I-17 section reopens after weekend work
More resurfacing to come
The northbound lanes of Interstate 17 in north Phoenix reopened Monday morning after several days of resurfacing work, but drivers should expect more weekend restrictions down the road.
The Arizona Department of Transportation began improvements over the weekend of I-17 between Dunlap Avenue and Deer Valley Road on northbound lanes.
Addition pavement work will take place during a series of weekend closures this fall, ADOT officials said. The entire project is scheduled for completion next summer.

The $16 million effort will include the removal of the top layer of older, worn rubberized asphalt along stretches of I-17 during the initial stage of construction.
Work next year will focus on the use of specialized machines to diamond grind the freeway’s riding surface.
The equipment removes a thin layer of the concrete pavement while adding small grooves, according to ADOT.
“The treatment provides a smoother ride while helping to limit freeway traffic noise,” transportation officials said in a release.
The I-17 work follows a recent I-10 diamond grinding project on pavement between 19th Avenue and Avondale Boulevard in the West Valley.
ADOT also has used the diamond grinding treatment in recent years on sections of Loop 101 and Loop 202, officials said.
