Norbert Joseph Murphy

Norbert J. Murphy (Murph), 94, of Sun City West, AZ, passed away February 14, 2026. Born in Chicago, IL, to Joseph and Margaret Murphy, he was one of 14 children. He married his wife, Dolores, in 1951, and together they shared 56 years of marriage while raising three daughters.

Murph worked as an engineer for Automatic Electric Company (GTE/Verizon) in Northbrook, IL, designing telephone systems and earning a Patent Award during his career. A man of deep Catholic faith, he was devoted to his family and active in church and community life. A lifelong singer, he was known for his Irish tenor voice and many years in church and community choirs.

After retiring to Sun City West in 1988, he immersed himself in community activities: bowling, bocce, softball, golf, bridge, the Westernaires Chorus, church choir, and volunteering with his homeowners association. Summers were cherished at the family cottage on Turtle Lake, WI, where he created lasting memories with his children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores, and daughter Jill Marcanti. He is survived by his daughters Judy Murphy and Jayne Brennan; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, with one expected soon; and his longtime companion, Jacqueline Mindling.

Murph will be remembered for his faith, kindness, and unwavering love for his family. Funeral will be held at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Monday, February 23. Visitation 10:15 - 10:45 am.  Mass 11:00 am.  Followed by lunch at St. Michael Hall.  Church is located at 14818 West Deer Valley Dr., Sun City West, AZ 85375.
