Nonprofit: Short-staffed hospitals need change

Nurses are exhausted and complaining over unbalanced staff-to-patient ratios where hospitals have been understaffed, according to an Arizona-based advocacy group for nurses.

The non-profit group, National Nursing Advocacy Alliance, says Valley nurses are “really taking the brunt” of having to work in short-staffed hospitals where a single nurse can be responsible for as many as 15 to 20 patients in a shift, said Kimberly Wohead, founder and president of the group.

“Nurses are complaining,” Wohead said. “...Nurses are saying there is a problem in hospitals. Why are we not listening to them?”
