A national protest event held in June is set to be repeated Saturday, Oct. 18, with Chandler being in on the effort.

As part of a nationwide day of nonviolent protest, according to a news release, the second No Kings Day of Action is set to take place along Arizona Avenue in downtown Chandler on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Ajlan Kurdoglu, of Chandler Gilbert Indivisible, said the protest, with a similar one planned in Phoenix and other Arizona cities, is an effort to put more fairness and increased rights into government policy.

"We’ve seen attempts to silence our voices in Arizona, whether through gerrymandering or voter suppression,” said Ajlan Kurdoglu, Chandler Gilbert Indivisible. “The No Kings events are our answer: Democracy belongs to all of us.”

Indivisible states thant on June 14, more than 5 million people across all 50 states joined No Kings in what it states was the largest single-day protest yet against President Trump’s authoritarianism.

The Oct. 18 day of action is the next step in this growing movement, the release states, channeling energy into yet another coordinated, peaceful mobilization.

"We’re excited to join with other groups organizing the No Kings peaceful protests across the country," Kurdoglu stated, via the news release. The release also listed unions and nonprofits that are backing the No Kings protests, including the ACLU, League of Conservation Voters and National Nurses United.

The release states that all No Kings events adhere to a "shared commitment to nonviolent protest and community safety," pointing out that organizers are trained in de-escalation and are working closely with local partners to ensure peaceful and powerful actions nationwide.
